Board Setup

Step 1: Create Jira Scrum Board

What to do

1 Navigate to Jira Spaces and in the right side panel Templates available → click + Scrum.
2 Choose Scrum — Deliver work in short time blocks board type.
3 Select Software development and select Scrum again and then Use template then name your space Build System with key BS.
4 Very important: How your space is managed must be Company-Managed and ignore Share settings with an existing space.
5 Click Next — Ignore Lets set up your space. Click Next. Ignore adding users. We will add users correctly later. Click Next Accept the Confluence part as Confluence Whiteboards are great for planning and requirements gathering and Sprint Retrospectives. Jira creates the project and board and Confluence Wiki together.
6 Go to Board settings → Columns and make sure if not already there you add: Sprint Backlog, Blocked, In Progress, Testing, Demo, Approval, Done, using the + at the right hand side. Also drage the columns into place with your mouse.
7 Go to menu above the board and make sure that Backlog is before Active Sprints. I.e. drag them into place with your mouse. Remember the Product Owner backlog is before Sprinting so a left to right relationship
8 IMPORTANT: Bookmark your new board in your Internet browser

💡 Tip: The project key (BS) cannot be changed once issues exist. Keep it short — 2–4 characters.
